Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using the Fantasy & Folklore Library (the “Library”) at mauih.com, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, please do not use the site. We may revise these terms from time to time; continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.

Lawful Personal Use

The Library offers digital editions of works in categories such as Fairy Tales, Myths & Legends, Folklore, and others, for personal, non-commercial enjoyment and study. You may download, read, and share links to individual works, but you may not resell, redistribute, or otherwise exploit them for commercial gain without proper authorization. This includes incorporating content into any product or service offered for sale, whether in digital or printed form. If you wish to use any work in a manner that goes beyond personal use, you must first verify its legal status and obtain any necessary permissions.

Prohibited Misuse

You agree not to:

  • Use the Library for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable laws.
  • Attempt to disrupt, damage, or impair the site’s operation or security.
  • Engage in automated extraction, scraping, or data mining without our prior written consent.
  • Interfere with other users’ access or enjoyment of the Library.
  • Upload or transmit any viruses, malware, or harmful code.

Bibliographic and Transcription Limitations

We strive to present accurate bibliographic information and faithful transcriptions, but we do not guarantee that every text is error-free or complete. Works are provided “as is” for reference and enjoyment. Some editions may include editorial notes or reading companions (e.g., “Edition Insights,” “Reading Companion”), which reflect the editor’s perspective and are not definitive scholarly sources. These supplementary materials are intended to enrich your reading experience, but should not be relied upon as authoritative academic references. Where we provide context (e.g., “Background and Themes,” “Story, Setting & Ideas”), these are informal guides and not exhaustive analyses. The views expressed in such notes are those of the editor and do not represent institutional positions.

Copyright and Public-Domain Status

Many works in the Library are believed to be in the public domain in the United States and other jurisdictions where copyright has expired. However, copyright laws vary by country. You are responsible for verifying the legal status of any work before using it in a manner that may require permission. Some content may include newly written introductions or annotations that are subject to copyright; these are indicated where applicable. The absence of a copyright notice does not necessarily mean a work is free to use. If you are uncertain about the status of a particular work, we recommend consulting a legal professional familiar with copyright law in your jurisdiction.

User Responsibility

You are solely responsible for your use of the Library and for compliance with all applicable laws. We disclaim any liability for misuse of content or for actions taken based on information found on the site. This includes, but is not limited to, any decisions or actions you may take based on the editorial notes, reading companions, or other interpretive materials provided.

Third-Party Links

The Library may contain links to external websites. We do not endorse or control those sites and are not responsible for their content, privacy practices, or availability. Access them at your own risk. We encourage you to review the terms and privacy policies of any third-party sites you visit.

Technical Availability

We aim to keep the Library accessible, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free service. Maintenance, updates, or unforeseen issues may cause temporary outages. We may modify or discontinue features without notice. While we will endeavor to provide advance notice of significant changes via the site, we are not obligated to do so. You should not rely on the Library as a sole or critical resource for any purpose.

Editorial Notes and Presentation

Works are presented with minimal editorial intervention. Where we provide context (e.g., “Background and Themes,” “Story, Setting & Ideas”), these are informal guides and not exhaustive analyses. The views expressed in such notes are those of the editor and do not represent institutional positions. These notes are intended to spark curiosity and provide entry points for further exploration, not to serve as definitive interpretations.

Rights-Holder Notices

If you believe that any content on the Library infringes your copyright or other rights, please contact our editor at editor@mauih.com with sufficient information for us to evaluate your claim. We will respond promptly and take appropriate action. To help us process your request, please include a description of the work, the specific content in question, and your contact information.

Warranty Disclaimer

THE LIBRARY AND ITS CONTENT ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITHOUT ANY WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. NO WARRANTY IS MADE REGARDING THE ACCURACY, RELIABILITY, OR COMPLETENESS OF ANY CONTENT.

Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE LIBRARY AND ITS EDITORS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SITE OR INABILITY TO USE IT, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

Suspension of Abusive Access

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate access to any user who violates these terms or engages in abusive behavior, including excessive automated requests or harassment of other users. Such decisions will be made at our sole discretion and may be taken without prior notice.

Service Changes

We may update, modify, or discontinue any aspect of the Library at our discretion. We will endeavor to provide notice of significant changes via the site, but are not obligated to do so. Your continued use of the Library after any changes constitutes acceptance of the modified terms.

Severability

If any provision of these Terms of Use is found to be unenforceable or invalid, the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.
